Education:

November 2005 - February 2006 (ESA Project)
I was sent to the Netherlands to rescue a project that had fallen behind schedule. I devised a new way of working where we could deliver functionality in short timescales.

The project was a success, delivering several iterations on time and in some cases ahead of schedule.

This was a Java based project with an Oracle backend running on the Websphere application server. I used Struts, SQL, T-SQL, JSP, Servlets, Tag libraries, Jasper Reports and Javamail

January 2004 - November 2005 (2006 including ESA Project) (Sapienza)
In this role I was responsible to maintaining and enhancing a suite of Struts based Java applications with an Oracle backend running on the Websphere application server. This included a lot of Analysis and design work and frequent meeting with clients to both produce specifications and install software on their sites.

In this role I used Java, JSP's, Servlets, Hibernate, Oracle, Jasper Reports, XML, CSS, Javascript and ant.

January 2003 - January 2004 (4th Contact - Message Labs Group)
I worked extensively on both Java and SQL Server development to maintain and enhance a high traffic Human Resource site. Employees from many international companies accessed the site simultaneously resulting in the need for extremely efficient coding on both the Java front end and the stored procedures in the backend.

I spent about 50% of the time using Java development with 50% writing ANSI SQL and T-SQL. Other technologies used where JSP, Servlets, SQL Server, HTML, Javascript, and Css.

August 2001 - January 2003 (CGI)
I worked as a Java web developer on a web site for the insurance industry in conjunction with Barclays bank. This role required the use of Java, Oracle, Websphere, Tag Libraries and XML.

This was a demanding and high pressure role often resulting in staying late and working weekends to meet tight deadlines for our clients.

During this period I also spent a lot of time gathering requirements and supporting the clients at their site for a suite of existing applications. I had a good relationship with the clients and was able to generate revenue by signing them up to new enhancements to these applications.

October 1997 - August 2001 (Royal Mail)
Royal Mail was my first IT position. I designed and wrote several applications including a helpline application. In my time there I saved the company an estimated GBP130,000 a year by rewriting applications with high external support costs and by introducing software that increased productivity in several departments, allowing the company to save money on temporary staff.
